Kassie Patton utilizes project and skills-based learning and teaching style. This style is to create and hold a space for students to try new things. Students are encouraged to notice things, look at things closely, and to hold their focus until they are finished. Students are provided ideas and examples to get them going and then encourage to add their own ideas. This artistic process provides students with new tools and perspectives.
Movement is generally allowed and encouraged. Sometimes yoga and exercise game classes are held with the students. On Fridays, if students have completed their projects, they get a free choice art day. Stations are set up and students are free to choose what they want to create, build, or play with. Students work on different projects monthly. In the past these projects have ranged from paper projects inspired by the work of Henri Matisse to painting and collages focused around water themes.
